| | Yeah, that's the Metro Station song, in the title. Yes, the song is still addictive. And yeah, I'm kind of feeling the whole "SHAKE IT" thing... because I got a new job. I now work several nights a week at , making pizza boxes, cleaning, cashiering, running orders and such. It's not bad at all; I see plenty of people I know [it's half a mile from my house], and it always smells scrumptious back in the kitchen where I hang. I get a family discount and cheap pizzas. While working in a restaurant isn't my preference necessarily [shall we recall the diner job?], and I have received another job offer which I'm considering, I am grateful to have FINALLY landed something, after filling out around thirty applications in the last couple of months. So stop by Donato's soon, if there's one near you, and get the thin-crust Hawaiian pizza. It's amazing beyond belief. Also convenient for me is the Siskey, the YMCA within walking distance of both my house and workplace. We were longtime members, and quit this past year in favor of Planet Fitness. Now we've re-joined, and I'm going back for the first time this afternoon [okay, not first, I've snuck in a couple times card-less, or stolen Alex's card, eh.] for a workout and yoga class, and apparently again tonight to go to ZUMBA! with my mother, who wants me to accompany her, haha. I'm so ready to go-- I've been drinking coffee like mad for the past couple of days, for some reason [six cups yesterday total, including the ones in two Starbucks drinks. I didn't sleep. You have no idea how fast I'm typing this.], so I need to work out some caffeine. It's a shame, because I resolved to cut caffeine this August, but with my 5 AM school-day wake-up call rapidly approaching, I don't see that becoming a reality... anyways. The re-membership is one of many big changes coming up these days. As I type, mom's on the phone with my salon to schedule my hair appointment. I'm going BLONDE!
Strawberry blonde, really, as shown above. I already have mostly red hair, so the blonde will kind of blend into that lovely hue, we're hoping. I'm so excited-- I haven't dyed my hair in over a year. "Thursday," Mom just mouthed at me from her perch by the counter, the phone still at her ear. So Thursday it is. I am PSYCHED. As for other big changes, well... I'm a senior, as if that's not big enough, yikes. I have to start my college essays soon, which is a bit unnerving. I'm going to be running Diversity Club with two other awesome members, so that's exciting, and a lot to handle... Observer Post should be starting up come September [or October?]. I'm starting an online Lit-Mag sort of project with a friend of mine, which I'll explain in a minute. And I might be getting a different job. [Shhh!] IF YOU KNOW ME, you know that my primary food group is Jelly Bellies.
and IFYOU READ MY BLOG back in spring, you'll remember that I entered the Jelly Belly Dream Bean Contest. I designed two jellybeans, highly original ones, if I do say so myself, and entered them in the runnings to become the next new Jelly Belly. Now that August has arrived, the 5 finalists are about to be announced. On August 15, visit http://www.dreambeancontest.com/index.tbapp [if the link doesn't work, try www.jellybelly.com] and see if my pumpkin pie or cranberry chutney beans made it. If so, PLEASE VOTE! I'd love to win $10,000... but more importantly, I would like to eat my own jellybean. So help me out. [Top Banana.]
Moving to less serious matters than the competition of jellybeans: I've registered for the Common App. 9 out of the 12 colleges I'm applying to are Common App, thankfully [UNC, UNC-Asheville and Elon are not], so that'll save me a lot of time. Now that I've gotten acquainted with Common, I'm pretty relieved; it's like the drive-thru of college apps. I mean, the difference between applying Early Decision and Regular Admission consists of a bubble-in. I am beyond ready to get started on this. Well, give me two more days to finish online French, haha. Then I'll knock you out, C.A.
www.kiraplastinina.com/ Kira Plastinina is like femininity incarnate. I will venture to NY before I wait around for this store to trickle down to Charlotte. I like things that are pink and I love things that are Russian, so Kira basically covers all the bases. Did I mention this apparel-mogul is younger than me? Eep. I'm tackling The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time for English; not required reading, but suggested. And "tackling" has rather negative implications; I'm enjoying it thoroughly and highly recommend it [although I hate recommending even the best books halfway through, because I've done so before, only to watch the rest of the novel slide drastically downhill, at which time I had to regretfully derecommend]. My mind was pleasantly active throughout the first half or two-thirds of summer, and now I find myself in a lazy rut with no inspiration to write, reorganize my closet, or write my English paper. The most inspired I've been was to put in an hour of Vinyasa yoga and an hour of Zumba at the Y last night, and for that, I suffer rip-roaring aches in my muscles today, which further encourages my laziness.
